It records every kilo of scrap where it is made, with type, reason and heat, keeps track of it in the yard, and decides whether to remelt or sell it. Scrap value is credited back to product cost, and reports show what causes scrap so it can be reduced.
Typical types are heavy melting scrap, turnings and borings, crop ends and offcuts, rejected pieces, mill scale and dross. You set your own types and grades.
It depends on your process, the scrap grade and market rates. Own clean scrap is often remelted; mixed or low grades may earn more when sold. The ERP compares both options using current rates.
Scrap weight from each batch or heat is valued at the scrap rate and subtracted from that batch's cost, so cost per tonne reflects what is recovered.
