MS Project and Primavera plan the schedule. A project ERP also knows the cost, purchase orders, timesheets, stock and invoices, so you see whether a project is late and whether it is losing money. You can import plans from both.
Earned value compares the work done with the time and money spent. SPI below 1 means you are behind schedule and CPI below 1 means you are over budget. It spots problems weeks before they show up in the accounts.
